Jasmine Crockett Defends Disability Rights
God Bless Jasmine Crockett and God Bless America!🇺🇸
Speaking as someone with a visual disability (I’m legally blind), I wasn’t offended in the least by Congresswoman Crockett’s comment about Governor Hot Wheels Greg Abbott. He may not have been offended either— that was funny!(1)
I find it odd that many on the right are so up in arms about her comment. I thought all the MAGA folks loved edgy humor. I thought all the MAGA folks rejected political correctness and woke word-policing.(2) Has something changed?
The reason I am okay with her comment is because she’s fighting for me.(3)
She’s defending my rights as an American.
She’s defending my rights as a person with a disability.(4)
She gets to make the joke (not that she needs my or anyone else’s permission). The joke was in service of the American people’s rights, including disability rights.(5)
The problem many on the left have with the edgy comedy of many on the right is that it makes people in marginalized groups the butt of the joke.(6)
Representative Crockett’s comment was so clearly not about making fun of Abbott’s disability. Like, you’d have to be blind to think that it was, and I would know!(7)
I’m happy to live in a country where Congresswoman Crockett is allowed to have said what she said. I’m incredibly proud to live in such a great country. I hope our great nation continues to protect this type of dissent.
I think all real Americans want that, including many MAGA folks, who should, therefore, be defending Crockett’s right to free speech.(8) I hope they will.

Side Notes, End Notes, and Tangents
(1) I may look up whether or not he was and republish with that update. For now, I’ve heard nothing about how he took the comment. Instead, many people are offended on his behalf which I imagine he’d find patronizing.
(2) Assuming this is true, I’d encourage them to continue rejecting political correctness and woke word policing here, when it would matter for them to do so. It’s easy to defend speech we agree with. It’s vital to defend speech we don’t agree with.
(3) in addition to it being funny!
(4) PSA: this is what actually matters here.
(5) Any reasonable person can understand that even if you disagree with her approach, you can still agree with the intention and goal behind it.
(6) That is in addition to the cardinal sin of this edgy right-wing comedy often not being funny.
(7) To share another demographic trait of mine, I’m white. I imagine that may afford me a bit more leeway than Congresswoman Crockett is afforded by some. That’s not fair but it is reality, so in that spirit, I wanted to say this. (Perhaps placing it here buries it in an end note? This is a rough draft, so please let me know your thoughts!)
(8) It was my impression that is why millions of people voted for President Trump. Was I mistaken?
