First, “Thanks Mom?” That is so cool. You should be very proud that your mom reads your posts and gives feedback. Brava to you both for sustaining a great relationship.
In your discourse do you draw conclusions based on your analyses or just inform readers to enable them to draw their own conclusions? Both approaches have merit so long as it is clearly stated where you transition from facts, to analysis, to conclusions. (Sorry if this is a stupid question since I’ve only read this one post. 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks so much Wayne!! Yeah my mom’s the best and I am very proud😊
That’s a great question about differentiating facts from analysis from conclusions drawn from analysis— definitely worth considering.
I’d say my approach often leans towards analysis. In this piece, I tried to separate facts from analysis and conclusions, both of which I tried to keep to after the Analysis subheading. That said, I do think the sections above that may have given way to analysis somewhat.
Something I think about when writing these posts is that what facts I choose to focus on is itself a sort of analysis of what I deem most important to include if that makes sense?
As for drawing conclusions, I try to state when something is mine, though I may take it as a given— mistakenly or not— that it’s clear when I’m just giving my opinion.
In any case, totally a valid question! I appreciate it and will be thinking about it when writing future posts!
Oh, I was not suggesting you were not already doing a good job of moving between facts to analysis, in fact I think you did it fluidly but with clear delineation. My question was more about taking the next step to drawing your own conclusions as well as informing and analyzing. It was not a criticism, constructive or otherwise. :-)
Hi Wayne, thank you for clarifying! That makes sense and I think I understand your question now. My answer is that it depends on the piece! For this one, my goal was to provide info and analysis so that people can come to their own conclusions. That said, I have also written pieces more geared toward persuasion where I advocate for a particular conclusion.
On this matter of US foreign policy towards Iran, I think I may write a piece at some point in which I do draw conclusions, but for now, I wanted to provide a basis of knowledge on which to ground any conclusions :)
Very insightful and well written.
Thank you for the kind words, Merritt!😊

Perfect approach! Build your case then hammer the points home with solid, logical conclusions. I look forward to reading them.
Thanks Wayne! I appreciate it :)
Very interesting Sarah. Thank you for including some past historical events.
Thanks Mom!! Sure thing I’m glad to know the historical events/context were helpful😊
